DESIGN MEETS ENGINEERING

ABOUT gshipaev

An independent design and 3D production studio shaped by engineering, visual thinking, and hands-on making.

gshipaev grew out of two sides of my background that have always existed together — technical problem-solving and visual design.

Long before the studio became a business, I was already interested in how things look, how they work, and how an idea can move from a screen into the physical world.

FROM SEA TO STUDIO

THE TECHNICAL SIDE

My first career was built around engineering, responsibility, and working with real systems in demanding environments.

I graduated from a maritime transport academy and began my professional career working as an Electro-Technical Officer aboard ships.

Working at sea gave me a strong technical foundation and taught me to think systematically, solve problems under pressure, and understand how complex equipment works in the real world.

But life at sea also meant spending up to six months away from home. Over time, I realized that I wanted to build something of my own — work that would allow me to combine technical knowledge with the creative interests I had been developing since school.

DESIGN WAS ALWAYS THERE

BEFORE gshipaev

The creative side started much earlier than the business itself.

I became interested in design while I was still at school. Around the same time, I started learning 3D modeling and became comfortable with video editing — skills that later became a natural part of my professional work.

Even during my first career, design kept finding its way into what I was doing. For my own company, I created its logo, branded letterhead, and custom door signs.

Those projects were small compared with what I work on today, but they made one thing clear: visual design was not simply a hobby I wanted to leave on the side.

A NEW DIRECTION

BACK TO DESIGN

A technical background became the foundation. Design became the direction.

After completing our first degrees, my wife and I decided to continue our education in a completely different direction.

She had studied architecture, while I came from maritime engineering. Together, we enrolled in Graphic and Industrial Design at the Institute of Applied Information Technologies.

The program brought together visual communication, product thinking, digital tools, and practical production. Our campus also provides access to 3D printers and training in photography and media production, making it possible to work across disciplines instead of treating design as something limited to a computer screen.

For me, this was a natural continuation of interests I had already developed years earlier — now supported by a stronger professional and academic foundation.

THE TURNING POINT

BUILDING SOMETHING OF MY OWN

Leaving a career at sea created the space to turn years of technical and creative experience into one studio.

Eventually, I decided to step away from the demanding rhythm of working at sea and focus on building something of my own.

The goal was not simply to switch careers. It was to create a place where the different skills I had accumulated could finally work together: graphic design, 3D modeling, technical thinking, video, product development, and physical production.

That became gshipaev.

THAT BECAME gshipaev

FROM DIGITAL TO PHYSICAL

HOW I THINK

A project should work visually, technically, and in the real world.

My approach to design comes from both sides of my background.

I think about how an object looks, but also how it works, how it can be produced, how the parts fit together, and how the final result will be experienced by the person using it.

That is why I am especially interested in projects that can move beyond a digital concept — from an idea or sketch to a 3D model, prototype, physical product, packaging, and final presentation.

For me, design does not end when the render is finished.

BASED IN BELGRADE

WORKING BEYOND BORDERS

TODAY

gshipaev is based in Belgrade, Serbia, with an international approach to design and production.

Today, gshipaev operates from Belgrade and continues to develop across design, 3D production, custom products, branding, and digital tools.

Projects can be discussed in English, Russian, or Serbian.

The studio continues to evolve, but the core idea remains the same: combine design, technology, and production to turn ideas into real objects and useful solutions.
